Event industry FAQs. What is an event?

Scroll

We all know that an event is a planned public or social occasion, but do we really know the breadth of the event industry?

If you are new to the event industry and need to get started with your event planning, you likely have a few unanswered questions. This post will provide you with an overview of different types of events so that you can be sure to always choose the best event for your situation! The event industry is diverse and constantly evolving so there are sure to be things you could learn.

Types of Events

1. Conferences

Conferences usually run on a large scale and focus on one critical theme, topic, or industry. It is common for a conference to run over several days, with three days being the most usual – but it does depend on the circumstances, of course. A conference includes talks from guest speakers, exhibitions, and networking activities. They are a great way to teach a large group of people about your business and brand in one sitting.

2. Trade Shows

A trade show hosts a range of different companies from within an industry to show their products and brand to the public. By showing your services and latest products at a trade show you can increase the customer’s interest in your brand and therefore expand your audience. Additionally, current customers can form a positive perception of your brand by having meaningful conversations with brand representatives. Trade shows vary in size from small to large scale.

3. Workshops

If you want an event that is more interactive than listening to guest speakers at a conference, then a workshop is the one for you. You can host workshops as part of your conference or trade show or as a standalone event.

Workshops allow your attendees to learn something new whilst also networking with other attendees.

4. Networking Events

Talking of networking, networking events exist within the event industry in their own right. Networking events exist to help attendees make new contacts within their industry. As a business owner, you can use a networking event to attract future business relationships.

5. Product Launches

A product launch event is a great way to celebrate the release of a new product and in doing so bring it to the public’s attention. Product launches can really help you and your company to get the word out about a new product and generate excitement around its release.

6. Team Building Activities

Team building activities are usually held as an internal corporate event. Team building activities allow your employees to build their working relationships through bonding. They usually involve everyone working towards the same shared goal and can range from fun competitive games to personal presentations.

7. Charity Fundraisers

Charity events can be hosted as internal corporate events, or by your company for public attendance. Charity fundraising events can be anything from a concert to a sports event held to raise money for a specific good cause. Charity fundraising days are a great way for your team to bond and can also be a lot of fun!
