Wimbledon Championships

We hope that you’ve managed to get your tickets to one of the most exciting sports events of the summer, the Wimbledon Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. But no need to worry if you haven’t, you can still feel part of it all, sat on the lawns around the outside of the courts, where they show all the action live on a giant screen. Come rain or shine, people come from all over the world to attend this event. Last year, the total attendance was 493,928 – these numbers don’t lie! So what are you waiting for? Grab your picnic blankets, flasks, Champaign and strawberries and be sure to head to the Wimbledon Championships this year. Watching it at home on TV doesn’t cut it when the sun is shining.

The exhibition explores the science fiction world with artefacts such as the original manuscripts by adventure novelist, Jules Verne, original models from the film, Stargate, plus music, film screenings and sci-fi modern art, all in one place. Want to know more about the sci-fi genre and how it has developed into a cultural phenomenon? Then Into the Unknown: A Journey through Science Fiction is waiting for you.

London’s Tobacco Dock will transform into an island of fun, to bring a touch of Japanese culture to London this summer. Visit and explore the magic of anime, cosplay, J-pop and Japanese music. Activities include gaming, exhibitions, performances, a traditional street food market and a sushi-making challenge. You can also enjoy oriental mask painting and can finally learn how to make origami properly (bring patience with you). Kawaii!

Notting Hill Carnival

This annual carnival, that’s origin dates back to 1966, has now grown into the two-day reggae and salsa music and dance extravaganza it is today. But this is more than just a festival parade, this is a celebration of Caribbean communities in London. And it is open to everyone, free of charge. It’s purpose, to foster the creative development and enhancement of diverse artistic excellence, is harrowing and is reflected in the atmosphere it emulates through West London when it is on. Need a free mood booster? This really is the place for you this August holiday bank weekend, so don your glitter and whistle and get moving!

Sunfall

This August, Sunfall will strike South London with its electro-music lightning bolt! Get ready to meet the heroes of the alternative cult music scene at this dance festival, which goes on all day and all night. If you want to know what to expect at this festival, simply visit London dance clubs, Phonox, XOYO or The Nest to get a feel for the vibe, as Sunfall is brought to you by the teams behind these popular clubs. Held in Brockwell Park during the day and then taken to clubs across South London for the after parties, this festival is certainly for party people.

Angels In America

Last, but not least, this wonderful event in Splento’s must-go list is one that we think you’ll definitely want to look into. If you have never been to the National Theatre, this is a great time to visit, as Angels In America brings its magic to the stage. This event is an eight-hour quasi-religious series of performances, starring Andrew Garfield, critically acclaimed the ‘gay fantasia on national themes’. The perfect thing to go to with friends to celebrate London Pride.
