Top Performing A-Players is every manager’s dream.

However, no two A-Players are alike and in order to get the best of your team – you need to understand different types of people you work with.  

I like Kim Scott’s (Radical Candor) approach of splitting them into Rockstars and Superstars.

Rockstars are people who don’t want their boss’s job, are very talented in their role and will keep doing it for years. A force – and a source – of excellence and stability on your team.

Superstars are highly-ambitious agents of change, constantly seeking new opportunities. These are people on your team who are going to change everything. A force – and a source – of growth on your team.

And yes – great companies need both types to achieve their maximum potential.
