Don’t Let the Perfect be the Enemy of the Good

Scroll

Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good and never, ever settle for good enough!

Sounds outright contradictory, yet I’m a huge proponent of both.

How is it possible you may ask? Simple.

First, holding two opposed ideas in one’s mind at the same time and still retaining the ability to function does wonders for your ego and sanity.

Second, as everything else in life – it all depends on the context.

I love running. Some say – I’m quite good at it. I’ve run three marathons in under three hours, so the perfect in this scenario would be to start training much, much harder and one day win the bloody thing, but I know my limitations: my age, my body type, my slow-twitch/fast-twitch muscle ratio, my workload and social life, my family circumstances… So I’m consciously saying no to the perfect and settling for good enough.

On the other hand, I’ve built several businesses over the past 15 years and some say – couple of these businesses were very good. But I always found that I could do better! Knowing my capabilities: age, multilingualism, city of residence, background, connections and three pounds of fairly creative grey matter sitting comfortably between my ears – I refuse to settle for good enough and will strive for the perfect!

Context. Priorities. Focus.
