How to Make the Most Out of Your Photoshoot

We know how important your photos and videos are to you – that’s why we want you to get the most out of your Splento session. With the help of our professional photographers, videographers and retouchers, we’ve curated this list of our top tips to help you get the results you desire.

1. Make sure to leave a brief
The best way to ensure your photos turn out how you want them to is to leave a brief. Our photographers are used to working with briefs and are keen to make your visions become reality. Got ideas about how you want your photos to look? This is your opportunity to tell us so we can work with the photographer to make it happen for you. You can leave a brief on the payment page or by contacting us before your session.

2. Be prepared
Preparation is key to making sure everything goes smoothly on the day of your session. Some venues and locations may have certain restrictions when it comes to professional photography. In this case, it’s important that you ensure we have permission to be there. Also, do make sure you’ve booked enough time to do everything you want to do during your session. If you think you may need an extra hour or if there are any changes or details you need us to know about, get in touch as we can only add more time to your shoot before it happens.

3. Weather
Worried about the weather? All our photographers are experienced in taking great photos even under the worst weather conditions, so if you’re thinking about canceling the shoot due to rubbish weather, you needn’t bother. We will make sure your photos turn out beautifully, whatever the weather. It is, however, advisable to dress appropriately for the seasons so that you feel comfortable during the shoot.

4. Arrive on time
Make the most out of your time with us and arrive at your chosen location in good time. That way, when your session time starts, you and your photographer will be ready to shoot straight away. The more shots we get, the better the result!

5. Trust your photographer
Remember that an expert is behind the camera and he/she knows exactly what to do. All our photographers have years of industry knowledge and experience and are guaranteed to capture you in your best light. They will always aim to get as many shots of you as they can so our retouchers have more to choose from when they are digitally editing the best ones for you. Feel free to ask your photographer to see the photos on their camera as they go along so you can get an idea of what the end result will be.

6. Use your photos wisely
Now you have your carefully chosen, professionally retouched images to play with, but how will you use them? Don’t just leave them sitting in your online gallery – download them to your device and get sharing them with your friends and family. Our newly revamped online galleries make it easier and faster to share on social media or by email so now there’s nothing holding you back. And because your images will always be in high-resolution, they are suitable for printing just as you would with any other photo. Just bear in mind that if you want to print them larger than A4 you will need to let us know so that we can send them to you in a larger format. If you want extra photos from your session, just get in touch and we will be happy to accommodate.

7. Relax
Once your session is booked, we take care of everything for you. All you have to do is turn up, enjoy your photo session, then sit back and wait for your photos to be expertly retouched by our team and sent to your online gallery in 48-hours or less. If you’re feeling nervous during a shoot, let your photographer know as they can help you feel more at ease. They can also suggest positioning and poses if you would like them to do so. A great way to help children relax for photos is to bring a game for them to play or their favorite toy so that they interact with each other in a natural way. Try to resist the urge to tell kids to say “cheese”; as a general rule, candid, unforced moments make for more beautiful photos.

8. Your look
There are no rules as to what you should wear to a photo shoot but it is important that you feel comfortable and that you can move easily during your shoot. For those who want to make sure they look sharp in their photos, have a read of our 9 Tips on How to Look Great in Photos.

9. Step away from the iPhone!
Often at large celebration events such as weddings, birthday parties and award ceremonies, it’s difficult for a professional photographer to prise subjects’ attention away from all the iPhones around them. Having too many other cameras at an event like this can result in very little photos with everyone in the shot looking into the pro’s camera lens. So, if you want to have perfect shots of your wedding or party, ask your guests to keep their phones in their bags. The pro photographer will be able to work better and you’ll get a much better end result.

Don’t forget that we’re here to help. If you have any questions about making a booking or about an upcoming session, get in touch and we’ll be happy to assist.
